Enriched Family Austin Summer Camp Special Feature (2019): Sports Camps

This is the third in a series of posts Enriched Family does annually on summer camps in the Austin area. Previous posts focused on science, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)/STEAM (STEM + art), and coding camps, as well as arts camps, including visual art, creative writing, dance, drama/theater, film, music, and arts combinations for all ages. Check them out if you missed them! This week's post focuses on a variety of sports camps, including baseball, basketball, climbing, golf, gymnastics, horseback riding, martial arts, multi-sport, and soccer camps. The next and final installment in this series will focus on all-around day camps and overnight camps. Baseball and Softball 

Longhorn Baseball Camps

Details: Longhorn Baseball Camps offer a variety of camps for players of all ages and ability levels. They offer a strong coach to player ratio which allows campers to receive personalized instruction from some of the top instructors in the game. UFCU Disch-Falk Field provides the perfect venue for players to develop their skills and a love for the national pastime-baseball.

Camp details by session: 

  • Skills and Scrimmage Camp (grades K-6). Four-day camps, sessions run M-Th (9am-1pm), June 24-27, July 8-11, & July 22-25. Cost: $350.

    • Campers will learn and refine the fundamentals that are the foundation of exceptional ballplayers. Players will receive the following instruction: hitting mechanics, fielding fundamentals, and the basics of base running. Players will also compete in coach-controlled games that take place across UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Participants will be separated based on age and skill-level to ensure there is quality competition and development across all ages. 

  • Junior All-Star Camp (grades 4-6). Four-day camps, sessions run M-Th (M 6-8:30pm, Tu & W 9am-3pm, Th 9am-12pm), July 15-18. Cost: Day camp ($600) or overnight camp ($800).

    • Participants will be evaluated on every aspect of their game and provided with an evaluation following the conclusion of camp. Pitchers will throw bullpens, receive guidelines for an effective throwing program/arm care, and coaches will provide constructive criticism for effective pitch design. Hitters will be given instruction both on the field and in the batting cages under coach supervision. Fielding fundamentals will be taught on the field at each player's respective position(s). There will also be coach-controlled scrimmages throughout various portions of the camp.

  • All-Star Camp (grades 6-8). 4-day sessions run Sun-Wed (Session 1: June 30-July 3, Sun 6-8:30pm, M & Tu 9am-3pm, W 9am-12pm) or M-Th (Session 2: July 29-August 1, M 6-8:30pm, Tu & W 9am-3pm, Th 9am-12pm). Cost: Day camp ($600) or overnight camp ($800).

    • Participants will be evaluated on every aspect of their game and provided with an evaluation following the conclusion of camp. Pitchers will throw bullpens, receive guidelines for an effective throwing program/arm care, and coaches will provide constructive criticism for effective pitch design.     • Players within the 2022-2023 graduation years will be given the opportunity to compete in coach-controlled games. Players will be evaluated in 60s, OF velo, IF velo, and pop times. At the conclusion of the showcase each player will receive an evaluation with their compiled numbers throughout the showcase.

  • Longhorn Showcase 2 (players graduating high school in 2020, 2021, 2022, or 2023). Session runs Sunday, Aug. 18 (9am for Position players; Noon for Pitchers). Cost: Both Pitcher and Position Player ($200); Pitcher only ($150); Position Player only ($150).

    • Players within the 2020-2023 graduation years will be given the opportunity to compete in coach-controlled games. Players will be evaluated in 60s, OF velo, IF velo, and pop times. At the conclusion of the showcase each player will receive an evaluation with their compiled numbers throughout the showcase.

Round Rock Express Baseball Camps

Details: Round Rock Express Camps offer big league quality instruction on the fundamentals of the games of baseball and softball. Express Camps range by age (6-18) and offer opportunities for all skill levels. Round Rock Express prides itself on providing high-level baseball and softball instruction from knowledgeable and experienced coaches. Express Camps aim to develop the complete ballplayer by not only focusing on the physical skill sets, but by encouraging growth in leadership as well as the mental side of the game.

Basketball 

ATX Ballers Coed Summer Basketball Camps

Details: ATX Ballers coed summer basketball camps: 1) develop fundamental skills for all levels of experience; 2) help prepare players for greater in-game success. Energetic and highly qualified coaches lead players through a series of both skills development and organized scrimmages; 3) average an excellent 1:8 coach-to-player ratio!; and 4) provide prizes and awards to players. Summer basketball camps provide multiple options for varying grade levels: (1) Grades K-5, (2) Grades K-8, (3) Grades 2-8, or (4) Grades 6-12. Most of the coed summer camps are 4-day, full day camps (9am-4pm), Monday-Thursday, unless otherwise noted. Longhorn Girls Basketball Day Camp

Details: This camp is designed to inspire campers to set goals that will enable them to find success both on and off the basketball court. Individual skill development, competitive games, informative instruction, and great on campus facilities all serve to equip each camper to become a better basketball player. Many current and former Texas players were campers. The staff of experienced coaches and the competition level of talented players from around the country served as a springboard for their development as young players. Longhorn Girls Basketball Day Camp is expecting another fun summer full of campers that are willing to work toward their goals! 

Camp details by session: 

  • June 10-13, Player Development Camp (rising 9-12th graders). Day camp, week-long session runs M-Th (8:30am-4pm). Cost: $330.

  • June 22, Team Camp (high school teams & club teams). Cost: $500 per team. Schedule, registration time, and location will be determined closer to the camp dates.

  • July 8-11, Fundamental Day Camp 1 - Wait List Only (rising 3rd-8th graders). Day camp, week-long session runs M-Th (8:30am-4pm). Cost: $330.

  • July 22-25, Fundamental Day Camp 2 (rising 3rd-8th graders). Day camp, week-long session runs M-Th (8:30am-4pm). Cost: $330.

Climbing

Crux Crushers Climbing Camp

Details: Get ready for the most exciting weeks at Crux Climbing Center! Crux Crushers Climbing Camps will provide youth with a safe environment to explore their skills in rock climbing, while making new friends and building confidence. On top of it all, campers will participate in yoga, crafts, and fun games!

Available dates and ages:

  • Week-long, half day camps (M-F, 9am-1pm) for ages 6-9: June 10-14, 24-28, July 15-19, & Aug 5-9. $225 members; $275 nonmembers.

  • Week long, full day camps (M-F, 9am-3pm) for ages 9-12: June 17-21, July 8-12, July 22-26, & Aug 12-16. $300 members; $350 nonmembers.

Golf

TopGolf Summer Academy

Details: Summer Academy is five days of non-stop entertainment and learning that kids will love. The program includes all of the components that make up the game of golf. From chipping, putting and full swing, to the rules and etiquette, kids will learn everything they need to know to improve their game. Each Academy is designed and taught by golf professionals from Topgolf Coach in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Summer Academy is staffed with a low student-to-instructor ratio to ensure each Junior Golfer receives in-depth, hands-on attention while he or she develops a winning golf swing. This program is designed for children between the ages of 6-12 years old.

Available dates and hours: Half day camps are available June 10-Aug 2, M-F, 9am-12pm.

Gymnastics

Champions Westlake

Details: Champions Westlake is dedicated to creating a safe, fun, and nurturing environment where students not only conquer new skills, but learn valuable life lessons. Athletes train in an atmosphere of support and encouragement that fosters confidence, respect, and discipline. Their synergistic and instructional approach focuses on the whole student in an effort to enhance their social, mental, and physical development. Their goal is that students experience success not only as athletes, but also as individuals. Campers are divided into age-based groups.

Dates: Weekly camps run June 3-Aug 9.

Camp details by age: 

  • Champ Camp (ages 2-10): 9am-1pm ($225/week for five day camps). Early bird drop-off is available from 8am-9am for $60/week.

  • Skills Camp (ages 6-14): 1pm-3:30pm ($175/week for five day camps). Sign up for Champ Camp and Skills Camp for full day (9am-3:30pm).

Jump! Gymnastics Summer Camp

Details: Gymnastics, arts and crafts, games, special guests, open play, and zen time. Children are organized into two separate camp groups, divided by age (*3-10; *must be potty trained). Half, full, and extended day options are available.

Horseback Riding

Bee Cave Riding Center

Details: Bee Cave Riding Center’s popular summer camp offers a low student-to-instructor ratio from a qualified staff with a positive approach to teaching. It is a weeklong program, Monday through Friday, with camps available most weeks of the summer from late May through early August. Each week of summer camp includes high-quality English and Western riding instruction, as well as classes in horse science and horse management. Camp also includes a fine arts program including pottery and ceramics, and time for swimming and water fun in their lifeguard staffed outdoor pool. Each week of camp ends with a horse show for students to show off what they have learned and achieved during the week. For children 6-16 years old.

  • Partial week camp (3-days, W-F), May 29, 30, 31 & June 17, 18, 19, 9am-6pm- $300

  • Full week camps (M-F), available June 3-14 & July 8-Aug 5, 9am-6pm - $500

Rio Vista Farm and Tack Shop Summer Horseback Riding Camp

Details: Do you know some horse crazy kids? What about a horse camp? Beginners receive a good foundation from which to continue their riding experience, and more advanced riders have the opportunity to improve their skills. Girls and boys ages 7-16. No prior riding experience is necessary. Children are divided into riding groups based on their riding skill level. Camp closes each week with a special camp horse show, with all campers competing and receiving ribbons, along with special awards earned throughout the week. Parents are encouraged to attend the show, which begins each Friday at 2:00pm.

Available dates and hours: Weekly camp sessions from June 3-June 29 & July 8-August 16, M-F, 9am–4pm (w/ van transportation, pick-up is at 8:40am. Drop-off is at 4:20pm).

Location: East, 1000 Fallwell Lane, Del Valle, TX, 78617. Van service is available to the first 14 campers enrolled each week ($45.00 weekly van fee). Van picks up and drops off from Westlake Hills at the Michael’s Shopping Center (located at the corner of Bee Caves Road and Walsh Tarlton). Pick-up is at 8:40am. Drop-off is at 4:20pm.

Cost: $375 or $420 w/van transportation.

*My older daughter did this camp last summer and loved it.

 

Stitch Willo Stables Horse Riding Camp  

Details: At the longest running, family operated horse stable in the Austin area, Stitch Willo strives to teach campers basic horsemanship. Campers not only learn how to ride, they learn the basics of colors, horse care, herd dynamics, and much more. During their riding time they make sure that all campers learn how to control their own horse and not just follow in line. They do this through fun games and exercises. Stitch Willo is the only state-certified horse riding camp in the Austin Area. Campers ages 6 to 13 and all skill levels are welcome. Campers are divided into small groups based on age and riding ability. In addition, there is swimming (weather permitting), arts & crafts, and a horse show and ribbon ceremony every Friday so that parents can come and see what their child has learned and accomplished throughout the week..

Available dates and hours: Weekly camp sessions from May 27-August 16, M (8:30am-4pm), T-F (9am-4pm). Extended care option available for 8am drop off and 5pm pick up (the cost is $10 per slot or $20 per day for both).

Martial Arts

Champion's Way Martial Arts Summer Camp

Details: Champion’s Way Martial Arts’ mission is to enhance and build confidence, leadership skills, and respect for each other through the teachings and traditions of Martial Arts. They offer a family-friendly environment where traditional Taekwondo and modern Kajukenbo are taught. Their first objective is to provide a safe environment for students, where they can learn and grow to become future leaders. Each student will benefit from the reinforcement of Integrity, Honor, Courage, Respect, Strength, Effort, and Self-Discipline. At the Champion’s Way Summer Camp, your child will experience an introduction to Martial Arts, meet new friends, learn new games, and have fun-filled days! Students will have a week that includes: Games * Martial Arts Instruction * Movies * Swimming * Field Trips. Ages 7+.

Life Ki-do Martial Arts Karate Camp

Details: Life Ki-do helps your child find happiness & confidence from within themselves rather than looking to others for validation and self-worth. And, they have a BLAST doing it! In addition to martial arts drills and games, Summer Karate Camp includes a ninja obstacle course, padded nunchuks and swords, throwing stars, and snack/free time during which campers can choose between a variety of activities. Kids have tons of fun while learning breathing techniques for focus and anxiety, tools for inner confidence, friendship skills, and team building. On Friday, parents are welcome to attend the final 30 minutes of camp so you can see what your child has been working on during the week. Camp ends with an inspiring belt ceremony in the final 10 minutes on Friday. All levels welcome! No experience needed. Partial day camps. Ages 5-10.

Multi-Sport Camps

All-Star Sports Camp

Details: At All-Star Sports Camp, the main goal is to keep kids active throughout the summer. They promote teamwork and sportsmanship through healthy competition via sports and active games. Teaching children basic skills and game rules allows every child the chance to discover new talents and push themselves to refine their natural abilities. Above all, they want to ensure that every kid has fun exploring a variety of sports while making friends and memories along the way! Activities include soccer, kickball, basketball, flag-football, capture the flag, arts & crafts, ultimate frisbee, dodgeball, bounce house, volleyball, wiffle ball, obstacle course, splash day, and more! Activities vary slightly between locations. Sibling discounts available. Camper ages, 5-13.

Available dates: Summer camps run June through August. Campers can register for a single week, multiple weeks, or a day at a time. North location camps run June 3-August 16 and South location camps run from May 27-August 16.

Full day hours: M-F, 8:30am-4:30pm, extended care at 8am and until 5pm available for $25/wk, each (AM and PM).

Hill Country Indoor Summer Wipeout Camps

Details: Wipeout Camp is the traditional day camp program that provides sports, games, crafts, and recreational activities for kids ages 5-12. Each week is a different theme and uses a variety of features within the facility including the climbing walls, playscape, courts, and turf. The facility is indoors, cool, and lots of fun. Your camper is sure to come home WIPED OUT! Some camps have more of a sports theme than others. Check the website for details and weekly themes.

Available dates and hours: Summer camps run May 28-August 16, M-F, 9am-4pm, early drop off option 7am-9am and late pick up option 4pm-6pm available for $35/wk, each.

Sportball

Details: Sportball offers a variety of week-long, half day camps (9am-1pm), along with some three-quarter day camps (9am-3:30pm) at a variety of locations across Austin. Their camps build upon their renowned Multi-Sport program for expertly coached sessions filled with creative, fun, exciting games and skill-based sports. Camps are offered both indoors and outdoors. Please see website for details. Please note, before (7:30-9am) and after care (3:30-5pm) are offered for an additional fee at some locations (see the website for details).

  • North: Magellan International School-Anderson Lane Campus (7938 Great Northern Blvd, Austin, 78757). Multi-Sport Indoor Camp, June 17-21 & July 15-19 (ages 3-13; grades PreK to 5th). M-F, 9am-1pm ($230 before April 30; $250 after) and 9am-3:30pm ($340 before April 30; $360 after). Before care (7:30-9am) and after care (3:30-5pm) are offered for an additional fee of $90/week each (AM or PM).

Soccer

St. Stephen’s Episcopal School Soccer Camps

Details: St. Stephen's offers a variety of half day and full day soccer camps for students aged 5-14 (Campers must be 7yrs old to stay full day). The soccer day camp is the ideal environment for young players looking to expand their abilities in a safe, fun, exciting way. Due to low camper-to-coach ratios and methodology they are able to accommodate all ability levels. Sibling and team discounts are available.

Available dates and hours: June 3-7 (half day camp will run from 9am-12pm. Full day [7+] camp will run from 9am-3:30pm with lunch provided and swimming available).

Texas Longhorns Soccer Camps

Details: Day campers develop their technique and love for the game during this fun and entertaining soccer experience. This environment is perfect for the young soccer player to learn from great coaches and enjoy the game by learning through fun technical drills and small sided games. Co-ed, ages 5-12.
